Sing-A-Long with Shimon Peres

The Associated Press reports that lyrics written by Israeli President Shimon Peres for a song entitled “Ray of Hope” were posted to the song-writing collaboration website Songweavers.  “Aide Yoram Dori said Wednesday that Peres, 84, wrote the song a year ago. It’s about his favorite theme, peace.” This isn’t the first time we’ve seen Peres’ poetic side. In 1998 he came to the Washington DCJCC and read poetry at a tribute to Yitzhak Rabin. Perhaps we should be glad he wasn’t reading original material. The lyrics to “Ray of Hope” will do nothing to dispell the (often mistaken) notion that Peres is a wide-eyed optimist. The lyrics do reveal that side of Peres which is a true-believer in peace, and his love of guitar solos.  While the following is totally safe for work, be warned…it is cheesy.

Ray of Hope

lyrics by Shimon Peres

4/4 tempo 84 bpm

[Opening with first part of Hatikvah]

[Guitar Solo]

O my Lord, it’s time to pray
When a new sun shines, let’s make hay
So save my land from desert stay
Call the oceans, salt to melt away
Call the oceans – salt to melt away (repeated)

[Guitar Solo]

And bless streams with love’s sway
Provide my foe and friend a bloodless day
Invite boys and girls for peace to pray,
O … Ye…
Then send a ray of hope
– for a new way

[Guitar Solo]

And bless streams with love’s sway
Provide my foe and friend a bloodless day
Invite boys and girls for peace to pray,
O, Ye
Then send a ray of hope  – for a new way
————————————————–
[Ending with first part of Hatikvah:]
